Roper St. Francis Foundation welcomes Anthony Burchard as its president

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has named Anthony Burchard, a nationally recognized leader in philanthropy and external affairs, as president of the Roper St. Francis Foundation and system vice president. He will begin his role on Monday, May 12.
Burchard will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for philanthropy across the healthcare system. He will oversee all fundraising efforts, including identifying prospects, managing major gifts, grateful patient giving, planned giving and events, and implementing best practice systems to improve fundraising performance. His leadership will be key to supporting Roper St. Francis Healthcare 2030, the system’s bold strategic plan for the future of healthcare in the Lowcountry.
Burchard brings more than two decades of executive experience growing philanthropy, leading brand transformations and forging strategic partnerships for complex healthcare systems. He most recently served as senior vice president and chief external relations officer for VHC Health and as president of the VHC Health Foundation. During his tenure, he expanded annual fundraising five-fold and led a capital campaign that raised more than $25 million in two years.
His career highlights include leading a $250 million fundraising campaign at Inova Health and overseeing a high-profile land acquisition from ExxonMobil that led to the development of a new healthcare campus. Colleagues describe Burchard as a dynamic and creative leader with a gift for big-picture thinking and authentic engagement — someone who blends strategy with heart and is deeply committed to advancing the Roper St. Francis Healthcare mission of healing all people with compassion, faith and excellence.
Burchard believes philanthropy will play a high-impact role in delivering sustainable healthcare solutions and inspiring families and grateful patients to make meaningful investments. He joins the Roper St. Francis Foundation at an exciting time as the foundation continues forward with Imagine — the fundraising campaign to reimagine the future of care in the community — and his leadership will help build on that momentum.
He holds a journalism degree from Ohio University and has served in senior leadership roles across healthcare, higher education and global nonprofits. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Burchard and his wife are relocating to Charleston from Northern Virginia.
